The narrative slips back and forth through time to slowly reveal the events of that night and offer a seemingly impossible explanation for why Steven is haunted by an image only he can see, why Cory's body is missing and why the daughter offers Vivian the cryptic warning, "I don't know where he is but I do know that you'll never find him."
