Thrust into danger while trying to run from it, Merula finds herself losing almost everything she's ever known the same night she meets and becomes bound to her familiar and becomes a proper witch. When a mage and a fae who share the same powers lock eyes they become bound. It's supposed to be amazing, a connection deeper than any other, soulmates in a way. But Merula's familiar is no ordinary fae, and he wants her dead. Now, on the run from him, her past, and the many great dangers in her world, she finds herself forced to face the consequences of actions both hers and not. The Seelie and Unseelie have been at war for seven hundred years. The three great human empires are unstable. Beastfolk are restless. Monsters hide in the shadows. Secrets thousands of years in the making will rock the present. At the center of it all, a witch will fight her familiar. And yet, will being on opposing sides of a larger conflict and inhibited by their own fears really be enough to make them enemies to the bitter end? Or will the attraction between them grow to overcome their differences? Is the binding what pulls them together, or is it something far stronger than mere chance? (Warning: this is incredibly slow burn enemies to lovers. I wasn't sure if I should label it as romance or drama, but since their interactions drive the plot I chose to tag it as a romance.
