In the world of Opmantath, Wielders (those who can use magic) are always kept under a close, watchful eye. Young wielders who can't control their magic are grouped with delinquents in Reformation Academies- the main form of juvenile detention. That's where Victor "Chai", a boy with a complicated relationship with fire, finds himself. Trapped in The Academy, he soon learns of a sinister truth behind the school. He and his father from The Outside begin helping a group of like-minded students solve a hundred-year-old string of student disappearances that the police seem all-to-willing to ignore.
