Nova, An Astralkin from Galaven is rejected by her fiancee, Cosmos. In the weeks following the rejection, she is sent down below to the world of Leiwei, where different kinds of kins live there. There she meets Ruby, a spunky Nauticalkin, Azriel, a soft-spoken Celestialkin, and Blizzy, a young Blazekin with no family to speak of. Together, they travel around Leiwei to find their purpose as the Misfits of their society. In the process, Nova finds out not just the solution to her own identity but finds out what happened to her true parents. with all of this going on, something sinister is brewing in Galaven that will change Nova's life forever.
